Swedish Mosque set on fire, injuring 5 people
A mosque in Swedish town of Eskilstuna (fifty five miles from Stockholm), was attacked and set on fire by an arsonist. Around 15-20 people were present in the mosque, offering midday prayers when the attack occurred.
“A witness saw somebody throw an object through the window of the building, which serves as a mosque, after which a violent fire began,” police spokesman Lars Franzell said.
He also said that five people had been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which ranged from lacerations to smoke inhalation. No suspects were apprehended.
Sweden is currently engaged in an immigration debate that has pitted the far right, who want to lower the number of asylum seekers by a massive 90 percent, where as the mainstream parties want to preserve the country’s liberal policy. The debate began when earlier this month, the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats refused to back a budget proposal made by the government and has since changed the political landscape.
